North Captiva Island Vacation Recap

Last summer my Mom had the idea instead of Christmas gifts to do a week long trip over Christmas break/January. I was 100% in.

The whole “experience” instead of gifts had me sold instantly!

I looked and looked trying to find somewhere fairly far south so we could at least have decent weather, play on the beach, and relax.

We found an adorable house on an island?! WHAT!? North Captiva Island has no cars, no grocery store, no touristy stores–it sounded like heaven! However, with being on an island it did take lots of prep prior to going. We opted to have a grocery service to do our shopping and stock our house (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!) instead of having to stop ourselves and pack it “boat” ready for the ferry ride over.

We flew from St. Louis to Fort Myers, Florida. The boys did great on their 1st plane ride. We each took a kid as our travel buddy and it went really well.

Next, we rode in a car service we had arranged with car seats for the boys that took us to our ferry, which then took us to the island where our golf cart was waiting for us.

Talk about a full day of travel with every type of transportation possible. We arrived at our beach house just in time to witness the most beautiful sunset of the week and enjoy our first meal in our house we got to call home for the week.

The course of the week was filled with breakfast + a view every morning, coffee on the deck, long runs on sandy roads around the island, beach, pool, and lots of relaxing.

Our house had access to a club pool that had a bar and restaurant, called Mangos. The pool was huge and the boys enjoyed every minute there and Max thoroughly enjoyed every afternoon nap poolside!

The house was located just steps from the beach which made it so easy with boys. They played for hours in the sand.

They had Memaw fetch them water, build sand castles, and chasing the sea gulls. Memaw was a trooper and let us each read an entire book on vacation which felt like such a treat! Thanks for the relaxation, Mom!

We had ice cream every single day/night…it isn’t vacation unless you do?! Jumping on the golf cart to get anywhere truly felt like pure island bliss.

The golf cart was obviously a huge hit!

We went out to eat twice at Mainstay, which had picnic tables outside right on the marina. They had amazing food and view you could not beat!

This little island is a true hidden gem and everyone on the island was super nice. There are a lot of vacation homes, but also a lot of people who live their permanently or through the winter.

If you are looking for a vacation where you just want to relax and let your kids play on the beach for hours, this is your place. Besides beach, pool , and golf cart rides we didn’t really have any other decisions to make for an entire week.

We are scared to tell to many people about this paradise island because their aren’t that many houses to rent :)-Ha, just kidding!

Honestly, I hope if anything, you get to enjoy a week away and treasure the moments and memories made with ones you love most.

Family vacations are truly where we hope our boys will make some of the best memories with their grandparents, cousins and extended family!

Until next vacation…

  1. No fair … you must share the name of the place you stayed! It is always best to get personal recommendations on places to stay when traveling somewhere new! 🙂
